We reach the glacial lagoon in the afternoon after an impressive drive past towering mountains and glaciers. The glacial lagoon is probably among the most powerful sights in Iceland.
After seeing these two magnificent sights we head south through the agricultural headland of southwest Iceland along a river valley with small settlements.
After about an hour drive south we turn eastwards along the south coast of Iceland
We pass stunning waterfalls such as Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss before we reach the beautiful small village of Vík.
We have lunch in Vík or its neighbourhood.
From Vík we head over the incredible expanses of black sands from the volcano Katla. We drive through the largest lava field created in Iceland’s recent history. Now overgrown, Eldhraun is 565 km2!
After we have admired the icebergs for a while and possibly spotted some seals we go to our hotel in the town of Höfn in Hornafjördur fjord.
After a delicious seafood feast we are going for our nightly hunt of the Northern Lights.
Just after an early breakfast we explore the area of the great Geyser.
We will see the geyser Strokkur spout boiling water to the height of 25 to 30 meters.
In the afternoon we return back to Hornafjörður after adventurous day where we relax before our nightly Northern Lights hunt. Gourmet dinner in hotel.
On route to Landmannalaugar we will stop to look at beautiful waterfalls and will be driving inland through a beautiful mountain area where we will have opportunities for short and longer hikes. We can bathe in the warm natural pool. Please bring bathing suits and towels!
We head up to the “real” Vatnajökull glacier, the 8.300 km2 big ice cap. On the way we might spot reindeers roaming around. We have a picnic lunch on the glacier.
Optional today is different activity such as snowmobiling or ATV tour.
We are staying in the realm of the great Vatnajokull glacier and drive to the glacier to experience the size and vast expansion of the largest ice cap in Europe. We start the morning with good Icelandic/continental breakfast, then go for a visit to the Glacier Museum.
Today you can explore Reykjavik at your own leisure - we’ll advise you on a host of activities, from visiting museums and galleries to shopping, depending on your mood and the weather.
In the evening you can enjoy dinner and Reykjavik’s legendary nightlife.
We also offer an optional Concierge Personal Guide experience. Our Concierge Guides are experts who will ensure you a VIP experience in Reykjavik.
After breakfast we depart for Reykjavík with Air Iceland, the domestic flight. You are picked up from Reykjavík airport and transported to your hotel.
Departure for the Keflavik international airport or an optional extended stay in Iceland. It is possible to extend the tour for additional days and more excursions, or just enjoy a relaxing time in Reykjavík.
