Our next waypoint is the charming town of Hella, situated on the banks of one of the best salmon rivers of the country.
We will travel through south Iceland in an easterly direction along the ring road to the turn off to Thorsmork. We pass through the tiny town, which is home to the Saga Centre dedicated to Njál's saga, which is set in this area, and other Icelandic sagas.
Our day starts with your expert driver and guide welcoming you onboard one of our special Mountain Taxi super jeeps.
We’ll collect you from your hotel or place of stay in Iceland at 08:00. Pick-up also possible from Hveragerdi, Selfoss, Hella and Hvolsvöllur.
We cross the mountain pass and Hellisheiði plateau heading towards the hot spring town of Hveragerdi. The hills are full of geothermal steam vents and the town is known for its greenhouses, which are heated by hot water from volcanic hot springs.
We pass through the settlement of Selfoss, which was settled by Þórir Ásason. Ingólfur Arnarson, Iceland's first known settler, was also said to have spent the winter of 873-74 "under Ingólfsfell west of the Ölfusá river."

•A picnic lunch is included. At your option and subject to seasonal opening, we may stop at a country restaurant. The cost of lunch at restaurants is not included.

You’ll get a brief glimpse of this stunning waterfall which we will stop and explore on our way back, later in the day. It is possible to walk up into the recess behind the thundering torrent of water.
Named after the Norse god Thor, Thorsmörk richly deserves its reputation as the “Valley of the Gods” and is one of the favorite areas that Icelander’s travel to.
Where the road end and the rough trail starts it’s time for some real tough riding as our super-jeeps make easy work of fording unbridged fast flowing rivers that would impossible in a normal 4x4.
The Super Jeep is the perfect way to travel to this nature reserve. We will stop at the glacial lagoon of Gigjökull.
We will have opportunities to hike along trails and into river canyons in this idyllic park setting. We’ll take time to explore the magnificent canyon of Stakkaholtsgjá which makes for a great hike.
Enjoy the unique mix of glaciers, rocks and wooded areas as we explore the Icelander’s favorite place to camp and hike. Finally after a relaxing and invigorating day, we will head back to the big city.
